Cleaning your security windows and doors this summer

With the holiday season right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to set aside a day for cleaning the screens on your home! In Queensland, our screens are put through a lot with our environment from dust and dirt near bushland to salt spray from the ocean and coastline. Beyond just making sure they look great, regular cleaning and care of your screens is essential to maintain the warranty.

Why do I need to clean my screens?

To preserve the finish of powder-coated materials, it’s essential that they are cleaned on a regular basis. Bella 316 and Secure View screens are built to last and withstand our Queensland conditions, but to ensure the longevity of your doors and windows, following the below cleaning guide is integral.

How often should I clean my screens?

The closer you live to the coastline, the more often you’ll need to clean the windows and doors on your home. Depending on the type of environment that your home is located, as outlined below*, will determine how often you should be giving your screens a scrub!

Types of Environment

Mild environment: rural, away from the coast and remote from industry and urban activity. Maintenance cleaning is recommended every 6 months.

Moderate environment: mainly urban, inland and away from heavy industrial activity. Cleaning is recommended every 3 months.

Severe environment: being coastal or marine, subject to salt deposition and within 15km of the East coast or within 10 KM of the West coast of Australia. Routine cleaning is recommended every 2-4 weeks.

What should I clean my screens with?

To keep your screens looking as good as the day they were installed, there’s no need to buy any special cleaners! Using a soft cleaner such as dishwashing liquid is recommended.

How do I clean my screens?

Pour some dishwashing liquid into warm water and wipe all surfaces down. To complete the cleaning process, rinse all surfaces with clean water. For particularly old and stubborn stains, we recommend giving the screens a good scrub with a quality car wash – this will help to restore the shine and colour back to the screens.

To preserve and extend the life of your screens and maintain their warranty, setting aside some time to clean your windows and doors regularly is essential! Following these simple steps will ensure the longevity of your screens for years to come!
